Course 8 will review the tax cycle and roles and responsibilities of the Tax Assessor-Collector. This course will also introduce levying a property tax; truth-in-taxation; tax calculations; applying exemptions; tax ceilings and property tax bills. It will also discuss specialized assessment activities that include changes to the tax roll; proration of taxes, and rollback taxes. Additionally, the course will discuss all the aspects of collecting property taxes including delivery of tax bills, payment options, tax receipts, tax certificates, tax refunds and deposits and reports.
This course is taught over a 3.5 day period with review and exam. 26 TACA CE hours will be awarded for completion of this course. Courses with a TDLR approved speaker will be awarded 20 TDLR CE hours.
