Assists the County Engineer and should be capable of performing engineering duties carried out by the County Engineering Department, including but not limited to:

The candidate must be able to collaborate, plan, and coordinate in-house projects or projects designed by outside engineering firms for Jefferson County public works projects from inception to completion. Responsibilities include:

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with a minimum of ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in general civil engineering work relevant to County Engineering Department tasks.
Specialized Requirements: Texas Driver’s License and Professional Engineering Certification.
Equipment Used: Proficiency in using a personal computer and associated software such as word processing, PDF, spreadsheet, email, and other general office software. Familiarity with CAD, field survey equipment, GPS equipment, and other engineering tools is required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Knowledge of principles and practices of general civil engineering, structural engineering, and public works design. Strong skills in project management, plan preparation, and floodplain administration. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Work requires organization, prioritization, attention to detail, and flexibility to coordinate various duties and projects. The position involves meeting deadlines, occasional travel, and driving to on-site inspections. Duties may include irregular hours during storms or local disasters. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
Work is primarily performed in a climate-controlled office environment. On-site inspections may require exposure to adverse weather and environmental conditions.
The position is primarily sedentary but occasionally involves light work such as moving objects weighing up to 20 lbs. It also includes activities such as driving, reaching, walking, climbing, and balancing for on-site inspections and surveys.
