Pay Grade: TBD

Salary Range: not to exceed $62,000.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The County Administrator performs professional-level work in the coordination, development, and implementation of special projects as assigned by the Commissioners Court. Responsibilities include managing various complex County projects that may involve coordination between County Departments, Elected Officials, State Agencies, Federal Agencies, and the public; researching and developing recommendations on Countywide issues and other administrative issues. The County Administrator will manage and coordinate grant applications and prepare reports and presentations as needed. The County Administrator is expected to exercise considerable initiative and judgment in carrying out assigned duties. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Commissioners Court.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / FUNCTIONS:

Essential duties/functions, under the supervision of Gillespie County Commissioners Court, may include but are not limited to the following. The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Communicates with County Administration, County Departments, State Agencies, Federal Agencies, Elected Officials, and the general public to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Makes effective oral presentations to all levels of employees, Elected Officials, County Administration, and the general public on special projects.
  • Develops and completes projects as assigned by the Commissioners Court.
  • Monitors grant programs and ensures compliance with grant requirements.
  • Deals tactfully with complex and sensitive government and community issues.
  • Deals effectively with a variety of public and private agencies in coordinating programs and services.
  • Collects information to complete necessary briefings or reports and presentations to the Commissioners Court.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

The ideal candidate will have the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Analyze issues and make recommendations to Commissioners Court;
  • Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines;
  • Develop creative solutions in relation to special projects;
  • Present information clearly and concisely to various audiences;
  • Work independently with periods of minimal supervision;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Elected Officials and other County employees, media representatives, the public, and other interested and affected parties;
  • Maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations;
  • Respond to citizen and media requests in a courteous and effective manner; and
  • Knowledge of County policies and procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Project Management, Government, or a related field; or four (4) years of experience involving organization or management of government-related projects; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
