Position Description, Responsibilities, Requirements and Application Instructions
SUMMARY: This position provides assistance to the County Auditor and other staff in the Auditor's office with various accounting functions and audits for County departments. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review audit procedures and programs in preparation of audits of County departments and courts.
Perform analytical reviews such as comparing and studying relationships among data.
Verify compliance of activities with statutes, policies, and plans.
Perform accounting functions such as compilations, account analysis, reconciliations, journal entries, production of financial schedules and review of bank reconciliations.
Serve as Payroll Auditor or assist the County Auditor with Payroll Function as needed.
OTHER NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regular attendance is required.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education and Experience:
Must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position; usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the purposes, principles, practices, and terminology employed in auditing.
Knowledge of professional techniques in the fields of accounting and auditing.
Knowledge of local and state law, policies, and procedures as they relate to the mission of the department and to the county as a whole.
Knowledge of the preparation and interpretation of statistical, technical, and narrative reports regarding department financial activities.
Knowledge of county department operations, organization, accountability, and responsibility.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles.
Skill in performing complex mathematical calculations and Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing and to maintain confidentiality.
Must be mature, dependable, resourceful and able to work independently.
Must be able to work with co-workers, employees and management in a pleasant, professional manner.
Must be able to work under pressure in a high-volume office, produce accurate work and meet established deadlines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position involves sitting at a desk or other workstation, typing, filing, making copies, standing and communicating to other county personnel, elected officials, and the general public. May be occasionally required to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects weighing up to 20 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned, smoke-free office. Continuous work at a computer keyboard. Work outside of the normal office (Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm) may be required to meet deadlines and accuracy requirements. **Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
