Position Description, Responsibilities, Requirements and Application Instructions
Department: County Auditor Position/Class Title: Assistant Auditor Supervisor: County Auditor Pay Grade: 22 Employment Status: Non-Exempt Direct Reports: 0 Full-time; 0 Part-time GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this position is to establish and implement accounting practices to safeguard the County's assets, maintain financial integrity, oversee financial record keeping, and ensure all expenditures comply with the County budget and applicable laws. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Create and maintain detailed and complex financial statements for various County funds.
Conduct internal audits and report writing in accordance with AICPA standards.
Administrator of accounting system; general maintenance of vendors and oversee payable process; act as back-up when necessary; serve as a purchasing agent for all departments; maintain and instruct all departments on purchase orders.
Forecast revenue based on tax rate, sales tax, fees collected and grant proceeds. Forecast payroll, expected and unexpected expenditures, assist in preparation of budget, and assist County departments with process.
Monitor grant administration and financial reporting, prepare reports and maintain documents for department's grants.
Assist in external audit of the County, Juvenile Probation, Adult Probation, Emergency Service Districts, and Jail Commissary in accordance with state reporting regulations.
Write policy manuals and resolutions for Departments with countywide effect.
Maintain inventory of all assets, to include fixed assets, as well as calculation of assets' depreciation. Reconcile along with property and liability insurance for County.
Accommodate requirements of the public, employees, elected officials and Department heads.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and proficiency of government accounting and other finance related areas to include general accounting principles and theories of financial statements and reports; of accounting ledgers and journals; and of computer technology related to accounting systems; of audit standards, procedures and techniques required to perform audits;
Knowledge of payroll systems and laws as well as budget preparation; Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; Excellent correspondence skills;
Knowledge and proficiency in INCODE software, Odyssey, Laserfisc, Orion, MS word/excel/PowerPoint/access software;
Good customer service skills;
Good interpersonal skills;
Ability to multi-task;
Time management skills;
Knowledge of County operations, services, and policies;
Ability to maintain professional demeanor in stressful situations;
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of Bachelor's degree in a field of business is preferred, but not required.
Governmental experience is preferred, but not required.
